I had the opportunity to attend a celebration for the 200th anniversary of international relationships between Mexico and the United States, in the Mexican Consulate in San Francisco.
My favorite line from the diplomats was (paraphrased and from memory) that the US and Mexico today are a lot like an old married couple. We complain about each other, we can be pretty cynical, we can even argue constantly, but at the end of the day we have an extremely close relationship that is borne out of true love, friendship and appreciation of one another, and there are few surprises.
